Did you know that if you have Covid-19 then you are more than 3 times more likely to experience complications if you also have gum disease?
Recent evidence has been released (see links below) and we now know that there are direct links between gum disease and complications with Covid-19 and that patients are 9 times more likely to die from Covid-19 if they have gum disease!
9 times more likely!
Although gum disease can be prevented, still around 45% of adults have it. Gum disease comes from the harmful bacteria that is left on your teeth. The bacteria from your gums can spread to other parts of your body and cause increased risk of complications for a number of systemic illnesses such as; heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
Now we know for certain that the inflammation in your gums has a direct link to Covid-19 and can cause serious complications.
I’m sure we can all agree to say that we cannot wait until this pandemic is over.
However, don’t wait until it’s over to visit your dental practice. Dental treatments are essential and extremely important in maintaining not just your oral health, but your overall total health too.
My advice would be:
1. Brushing twice a day with an electric toothbrush
2. Daily cleaning with interdental aids such as floss or interdental brushes
3. Regular appointments with your Dental Hygienist/Therapist
If you are suffering with Covid-19 then make sure that you have an excellent oral hygiene routine. If you are unable to do this then please contact the practice and we can offer tailored advice to help you in whatever way we can.
